About the airport
Kirensk is a regional airport located 3 km west of the town of Kirensk in Irkutsk Oblast. It provides regular air service to the regional centre, Irkutsk, as well as to other airports in Irkutsk Oblast.
During the Great Patriotic War, the airport was an integral part of the ALSIB air route, which was used to ferry combat aircraft from the USA to the USSR. Today, Kirensk Airport holds important strategic significance for the north of Irkutsk Oblast. The enterprise carries out aviation work for forest fire protection in Irkutsk Oblast and Zabaykalsky Krai, and operates charter flights to northern settlements in Irkutsk Oblast that have no ground connection to the mainland. The aviation enterprise includes the airports of Kirensk, Kazachinskoe, Erbogachen, Zhigalovo, and 14 other landing sites.
