About the airport

Veliky Ustyug is a regional airport located in the city of Veliky Ustyug, Vologda Oblast.

The airport handles domestic passenger flights on the routes Moscow—Cherepovets—Veliky Ustyug and Saint Petersburg—Cherepovets—Veliky Ustyug. The airport is operated by the airline Severstal, which operates flights on Yak-40 aircraft twice a week.

Since 2011, repair work has been carried out to extend the runway and reconstruct the terminal complex. In 2016, the airport was included in a federal programme, under which about 1.3 billion RUB will be allocated for reconstruction.

In August 2019, the governor of Vologda Oblast announced that the airport reconstruction would be completed by 20 August 2020. The runway length will be increased to 1800 m, allowing the airport to accommodate L-410, Saab 2000 and Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft with tourists arriving at the “homeland” of Ded Moroz. Later, the completion date was postponed to the end of November.

The airport reopened after reconstruction on 25 December 2022.
