Platov Airport is the international airport of Rostov-on-Don, the successor to the old airport on Sholokhov Avenue. It is located 29 kilometres northeast of Rostov-on-Don in the Aksaysky District of Rostov Oblast, 15 km northwest of the city of Novocherkassk. It is named after the Cossack ataman Matvei Platov.

The new Rostov airport was built as part of the preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It is the first large airport built from scratch in modern Russian history and the third busiest in the Southern Federal District. The airport has been open for scheduled flights since 7 December 2017.

The aerodrome is certified to receive Airbus A310, Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321, Airbus A330, Boeing 737, Boeing 747, Boeing 757, Boeing 767, Boeing 777, CRJ, An-124, Il-62, Il-76, Tu-154, Tu-204 and all lighter aircraft, as well as helicopters of all types. The runway classification number is 57/R/A/W/T, and the instrument runway is equipped to ICAO Category II.

In February 2019, the airport received a 5-star rating following an audit by experts from the prestigious international rating organisation Skytrax. This was the first time a Russian airport had been awarded such a rating since the ranking was established in 1989. In 2019, the airport experienced the largest passenger traffic decline among the 30 largest airports in Russia, with experts attributing the drop to the airport’s high tariffs for airline services.
