About the airport
Norilsk International Airport, or Nikolay Urvantsev Norilsk International Airport, known on maps as Alykel Airport, is located in the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai, thirty-five kilometres west of the centre of Norilsk, near the settlement of Alykel. It holds the status of an international airport and serves as a joint-use airfield with state aviation. It is classified under international conditions. The official name is Norilsk.
The airport is the only connection of the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai with other regions of Russia, apart from navigation on the Yenisei River and the Northern Sea Route. It is linked by road to Dudinka and Norilsk.
In 2021, at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, the companies Rosneft and Norilsk Nickel agreed on the expansion of the airport, as well as its return to round-the-clock operation without days off.
