About the airline
The airline operates in Vietnam from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The company holds the status of a low-cost carrier.
VietJet Air or VietJet is an international low-cost carrier from Vietnam. It received permission to operate in 2007. It was the first private airline established in Vietnam. In 2011, VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company was created based on the company by merging several service enterprises with VietJet Air. The company’s headquarters are located in the Long Bien district of the country’s capital, Hanoi.
The first flight was launched on 25 December 2011 (from Ho Chi Minh City – Tan Son Nhat to Hanoi). The long project launch was due to the global economic downturn in 2008 and various regulatory issues. In 2010, the Malaysian airline AirAsia announced plans to buy 30% of the company but later abandoned these plans. The airline carried 10 million passengers by 2014 and 25 million by 5 December 2015.
VietJet Air is owned by Sovico Holdings, HDBank and several private individuals. In February 2017, the airline’s shares were listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange. Co-owner and CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is Vietnam’s first female billionaire.
The central office is located in Ho Chi Minh City, with an additional office in Hanoi.
